Nicole Peterson

Founder & CEO is a devoted wife to Farrell Peterson of 29 years and a proud mother of five children. She is the Founder and CEO of Rivers in the Desert, Inc., a NACC Certified Christian Life Coach, and serves on the Board of the Beach Park Network of Excellence Foundation, District 3. She earned an Associate Degree in Biblical Studies and is passionate about leadership and community development for mission-driven organizations.

With over 25 years of experience working with children, youth, and families, Nicole actively mentors students in local schools, leading with compassion, vision, and a deep commitment to strengthening families and communities.

Farrell Peterson

President– is a devoted husband of 29 years to Nicole Peterson and a proud father who values family, faith, and community. He has been employed with the Pace Bus Company for over 29 years and currently serves as Superintendent in Waukegan, Illinois, providing steady leadership in public transportation. He has earned an Associate Degree in Biblical Studies and also serves as an Associate Pastor at his church. Farrell is a committed member of Rivers in the Desert, supporting its mission to strengthen families and uplift the local community through service and mentorship.

Chetara jenkins

Secretary/Board member is a purpose-driven leader, business owner, and community builder. She is the owner of The Light Place, an event space designed to bring people together through meaningful celebrations and experiences. Chetara currently serves as the Director of a Young Adult Ministry, where she is passionate about empowering, mentoring, and creating safe spaces for young adults to grow in faith and purpose. Known for her heart for people, strong leadership, and commitment to excellence, she leads with integrity, faith, and a vision to make a lasting impact.

alonzo jenkins

Board member is a lifelong resident of Waukegan, Illinois, and a proud servant of the community. He currently holds the position as the Superintendent of Public Works, where he is dedicated to improving the quality of life for residents through effective leadership, infrastructure development, and community-focused service.

Alonzo takes great pride in being a public servant and has served on several boards, including his current role on the Vista Hospital Board. He is passionate about impacting the next generation by providing job resources and teaching the value of a strong work ethic, believing that hard work and opportunity are key to building a better future.

Karen White

Board member has over 20 years of experience serving children and families and a strong background in early childhood education. She serves as a Children’s Ministry Director, helping families locate needed support, mentoring children and leaders, and teaching the importance of living healthy, Christ-like lives. Karen also supports daycare staff as needed, contributing to a nurturing and well-structured environment where children and families can thrive.
