7-Day Family Devotional
Day 1 — Gratitude Changes the Atmosphere
Scripture: 1 Thessalonians 5:18
“Give thanks in all circumstances…”
Devotional Thought:
Gratitude has the power to change how we see our lives. When families focus on what they are thankful for instead of what they lack, their home becomes a place of joy. Even small blessings—food, laughter, a safe place to sleep, or time together—are gifts from God.
Teaching children gratitude helps them recognize God’s goodness in everyday life. When we thank God together, we remind ourselves that He is always working in our lives.
Discussion Questions
- What are three things you are thankful for today?
- Why do you think gratitude makes people happier?
Family Activity
Create a Family Gratitude Jar.
- Find a jar or bowl.
- Each person writes one thing they are thankful for on a piece of paper.
- Place the papers in the jar.
- Read them together at the end of the week.
Action Item
Each family member should say “thank you” to at least one person today.
Prayer
God, thank You for the blessings in our lives. Help our family always remember to be grateful.
Day 2 — Serving Others
Scripture: Galatians 5:13
“Serve one another humbly in love.”
Devotional Thought:
God designed families to care for others. When we serve people, we show them God’s love through our actions. Serving doesn’t always mean doing something big—it can be small acts of kindness that make someone’s day better.
Families that serve together grow closer and develop compassionate hearts.
Discussion Questions
- Who do you know that might need encouragement?
- Why do you think helping others is important?
Family Activity
Do one act of kindness together.
Examples:
- Write a thank-you note to a teacher
- Help a neighbor with something
- Call or visit a grandparent
- Leave a positive note for someone
Action Item
Each family member should do one secret act of kindness today.
Prayer
God, help our family show love to others through our actions.
Day 3 — Speaking Life
Scripture: Proverbs 18:21
“The tongue has the power of life and death.”
Devotional Thought:
Words are powerful. Encouraging words can build someone up, while negative words can hurt deeply. Families should be places where people feel safe, loved, and encouraged.
Learning to speak life into each other strengthens relationships and builds confidence in children.
Discussion Questions
- How do encouraging words make you feel?
- What kinds of words hurt people?
Family Activity
Do a Compliment Circle.
Each person takes a turn telling something positive about the person next to them.
Examples:
- “I appreciate how kind you are.”
- “You always make people laugh.”
Action Item
Every family member should give three compliments today.
Prayer
God, help our family use words that bring encouragement and love.
Day 4 — Trusting God With Worries
Scripture: Philippians 4:6–7
“Do not be anxious about anything…”
Devotional Thought:
Everyone has worries. Children worry about school, friendships, and the future. Adults worry about responsibilities and life challenges. God invites us to give our worries to Him instead of carrying them alone.
Prayer is how we hand our concerns to God.
Discussion Questions
- What is something that worries you?
- How does prayer help us when we feel anxious?
Family Activity
Create a Prayer Box.
- Write worries or prayer requests on paper.
- Place them in a box.
- Pray over them together.
Action Item
Whenever you feel worried today, pause and say:
“God, I trust You with this.”
Prayer
God, we give our worries to You. Fill our hearts with peace.
Day 5 — Forgiveness Restores Relationships
Scripture: Colossians 3:13
“Forgive as the Lord forgave you.”
Devotional Thought:
Every family has disagreements. Forgiveness is how we repair relationships and move forward with love. When we forgive, we release anger and choose peace.
Children learn forgiveness by watching how adults respond to mistakes.
Discussion Questions
- Why is forgiveness sometimes hard?
- How does forgiving someone help both people?
Family Activity
Practice “Fresh Start”.
Each person can say:
- “I’m sorry for…”
- “I forgive you.”
Then give a hug or handshake.
Action Item
If there is tension in the family, take one step toward making it right.
Prayer
God, help us forgive quickly and love each other well.
Day 6 — Encouraging One Another
Scripture: Hebrews 10:24–25
“Encourage one another…”
Devotional Thought:
Everyone needs encouragement. Life can feel difficult at times, but supportive families remind each other that they are capable, valued, and loved.
Encouragement builds confidence and helps people keep going when things are tough.
Discussion Questions
- When was a time someone encouraged you?
- How can we encourage each other more?
Family Activity
Create Encouragement Notes.
Write short notes and hide them for family members to find.
Examples:
- In a lunchbox
- On a mirror
- By someone’s pillow
Action Item
Tell someone outside your family something encouraging today.
Prayer
God, help our family lift each other up.
Day 7 — Building a Family Legacy
Scripture: Joshua 24:15
“As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
Devotional Thought:
Families create legacies by the values they live out every day. Faith, kindness, honesty, and love shape the future of a family. The habits families build today influence generations.
Choosing to follow God together strengthens the foundation of the home.
Discussion Questions
- What values do we want our family to be known for?
- What kind of example do we want to set?
Family Activity
Create a Family Values List.
Write 4–5 values your family wants to live by.
Examples:
- Kindness
- Faith
- Honesty
- Respect
- Helping others
Place the list somewhere visible in your home.
Action Item
Choose one family habit you want to continue weekly (family prayer, serving others, devotion time, etc.).
Prayer
God, guide our family and help us live in a way that honors YouActivity:
Each person says: “God sees me and loves me.”
Share one thing you’re thankful God sees about your life.
Prayer:
God, thank You for seeing our family and caring about every detail of our lives. How can we remind each other this week?
